Celebration of the Madonna Grande in Demo (BS, Italy)

From September 3 to 7, 2025, the hamlet of Demo, in the municipality of Berzo Demo (Val Camonica, BS), will be transformed into an enchanted place for the Festa della Madonna Grande, one of the most eagerly awaited and heartfelt events for the local community.
Every five years, the small village of about 900 inhabitants renews a tradition that has its roots in an ancient vow: the streets and squares are decorated with fir branches and thousands of colorful paper flowers, creating an evocative landscape that involves residents and visitors in a unique experience, suspended between faith, art, and collective memory.
A village that becomes a fairy tale
Walking through the streets of Demo during the festival, you feel like you are immersed in a fairy tale: the scents of the forest mingle with the bright colors of the flowers, while the famous “caves” appear at every corner—real scenographic installations, similar to nativity scenes, in which the Madonna is the absolute protagonist. Here, devotion meets creativity, giving life to landscapes that depict scenes of everyday life and moments of spirituality.
The strength of women and the value of paper
The beating heart of the festival are the women of the village, who have been working diligently for months to create paper flowers. An art handed down from generation to generation, capable of transforming a simple material into a symbol of faith and beauty.
Cartotecnica Rossi is proud to be part, albeit indirectly, of this tradition: our crepe and tissue papers, the result of over a century of experience, accompany those who choose to express their creativity through the timeless language of paper flowers. Each corolla is concrete proof of how handcrafted skills, combined with quality materials, can give shape to emotions that last over time.
A community heritage
The 2025 edition of the Festa della Madonna Grande takes on a special significance: after the forced interruption caused by the pandemic, the return of this event becomes a symbol of resilience and renewed hope. For six days, Demo will not only be a place of religious celebration, but also a shared art workshop, an example of how paper can become a bridge between tradition and the future, between spirituality and culture.
Paper, tradition, and identity
Cartotecnica Rossi has always supported those in Italy and around the world who use paper to create works that tell stories, convey emotions, and express identity. Seeing how a small community in Val Camonica manages to transform its devotion into a collective work of extraordinary beauty, through thousands of paper flowers, reminds us once again of the universal value of creativity.
In the right hands, paper becomes a tradition that blossoms.
